Why Renting a TMA Truck Can Beat Buying for Seasonal Work

Not every crew needs a truck parked in the yard all year. For paving seasons, striping runs, and short contracts, a rental keeps a MASH-compliant attenuator on the job without tying up capital or a title.

A new attenuator truck runs roughly $40,000 to $165,000 depending on the chassis, the attenuator, and the boards you add. That is a real commitment for a crew that only needs the truck a few months a year. Renting shifts the math. You pay for the weeks you actually work and hand the keys back when the season ends.

When a rental makes sense

  • Summer paving or striping that wraps up before winter
  • A single contract that needs one more truck than your fleet carries
  • Covering a unit that is out for repair or re-certification
  • Trying a Scorpion or Blade setup before you commit to buying one

Our rental rates run about $300 a day, $700 a week, or $2,100 a month. Every rental truck ships MASH-2016 compliant with a current FHWA eligibility letter, so you are not gambling on whether the unit will pass an inspection mid-contract.

What you skip when you rent

Ownership carries costs that do not show up on the sticker: storage, insurance, annual service, and the slow drift toward the 2030 deadline for older non-compliant units. A rental leaves those with us. When the truck needs a hydraulic check or a light bar swap, that is our shop's problem, not yours.

We keep rental units staged and serviced, so lead times stay short even during peak paving season.

Can I rent for a few days and extend if the job runs long?
Yes. Day, week, and month rates stack, and we can roll a short rental into a longer term if the schedule slips.
Do rental trucks come with arrow boards?
Most do. Tell us the job and we will spec the truck with the right arrow board or message board before it leaves the yard.
