Boards live outdoors in every kind of weather. A little seasonal care keeps them bright, legible, and ready when a closure goes live.
Arrow boards and CMS message boards spend their lives exposed to sun, rain, dust, and cold. That takes a toll on lamps, wiring, and power systems. Seasonal maintenance keeps a board readable at the distance drivers need, instead of failing halfway through a shift.
A seasonal checklist
- Clean lenses and panels so dust and film do not cut brightness.
- Test every lamp or pixel, on a 15-lamp or 25-lamp board, and replace dead ones.
- Check batteries, solar panels, and charging before peak season.
- Inspect wiring and connectors for corrosion and moisture.
- Confirm the board raises, aims, and locks correctly.
Timing the work
Hit the boards before the seasons that stress them most. Check batteries and charging ahead of cold weather, when capacity drops. Clean panels and test lamps before the busy summer season, when boards run long hours in bright sun. A board that fails during a live closure leaves drivers without warning, which is exactly the situation it exists to prevent.
A dim or half-lit board is worse than none, because it looks like it is working while giving drivers a weak signal.
